Allow me to rant, if you will…
I really wouldn’t mind seeing Greg Gutfeld dead.
Last week, on FOX’s late-night talkshow Red Eye, this “comedian” launched into a lengthy and obnoxious diatribe on the Canadian Forces. In response to an announcement from CAF generals that they would be withdrawing from Afghanistan for a period of one year, Gutfeld belittled and insulted the CAF as a whole at great length.
Let’s step back for a second; I think it’s easy to miss the degree of absurdity present in this incident. In 2001, Gutfeld’s home country - The US of A - decided they wanted to go to Afghanistan to find some WMDs, kill some terrorists, etc. Our Prime Minister sent some help along, entirely at the behest of the US President, and against the wishes of the UN. Any way you slice it, our country and our Forces were doing a favour to the Americans. As of this week, nearly eight years after our arrival in Afghanistan, the CAF death toll in that country sits at 116.
One hundred and sixteen Canadians have died as a result of out favour to the USA…and their talkshow hosts are on national television belittling our contribution. What a wonderful way of thanking your neighbours, America.
